Klein suspended, will miss U.S. Open; Sandgren prepares for New York

For the second time this summer, Craig Tiley, director of player development of Tennis Australia, has laid down the law to one of Australia's top juniors. In June, the Herald Sun reported that Bernard Tomic, the 14-year-old prodigy was sent home for lackluster effort at the French juniors. I spoke to Tiley about that decision when I talked with him at Wimbledon, and he confirmed the report was accurate. Now it is 2007 Australian Junior Champion Brydan Klein who is run afoul of the requirements for Tennis Australia support. Again the Herald Sun has the details.

Tennys Sandgren had an opportunity to talk with The Tennessean about his win in Kalamazoo and his upcoming trip to New York for the U.S. Junior Open.

It's my understanding that the wildcard selections for the juniors have been made, but the public announcement hasn't.

It's nice to see that Formentera, Lawrence L. will be one of the US Jr. Open Championships wild card recieptant.

About time that USTA begins to give weights to the Easter Bowl Championships which means so much for junior players.

For most juniors, be able to participate in the Easter bowl are as important as playing Kalamazoo.

USTA should award Rynne Williams an USTA Open wild card based on his Easter Bowl results like the way they awarded Mike McClune an US Open Main Draw Wild Card.

First off, easter bowl is nothing compared to kalamazoo for juniors. And what is the USTA Open?

Where did you hear that Formentera received a wild card? Do you know who else received one?

Off topic, but it's worth mentioning that Roy Kalmanovich had a pretty good showing in the qualies at New Haven. He beat Todd Paul 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 and then lost to talented Russian Evgeny Korolev 6-4, 6-4.

Colette said that he had the most powerful forehand at Kalamazoo last year. For anyone who's seen him, does he have pro potential?

Roy has pro potential and is a great kid and does have a big forehand. If he makes up his mind to really work at it he can be a very good pro player. He spent a short period of time here at Newk's last semester and would hit with anyone you asked him to with a good attitude. I hope he does well. Pat Harrison

He's going to college, right? I really hope so, and does anyone know where?

bo, tennys, formentera, jarmere....devin britton didnt get one into qualies or main

Tenys gets one into main draw with his win at the Zoo. Bo gets one into qualies for being 2nd at the Zoo. Devin Brittons ranking will get him into qualies. Formentera shouldnt get one. He hasn't done anything to speak of since Easter Bowl. They may have turned them down or it may conflict with Italy if they are chosen that part I don't know.

Formentera hasn't done anything since the Easter Bowl? He reached the quarters at the Clays, the semis at Kalamazoo, the final in the SoCal Sectional Championships (where he beat Steve Johnson, Bradley Klahn, and Nicolas Meister, and was semi-competitive against Thacher), the final at a National Open (where he beat Kehrer, Lin, and Meister, and lost a close match to Johnson), and the final at the Quiksilver Championships. That's nothing?
