Wrapping Up Wimbledon

Before I move to another surface on Wednesday when I head to the Clay Courts, it's time to wrap up Wimbledon. My tournament synopsis for The Tennis Recruiting Network went up today, and Kevin McClure and I discussed my wet week at Wimbledon in a bit more detail on the latest version of Inside Junior Tennis.

And completely off-topic, USA Today's Doug Robson delves into a story I've always wanted to write myself--who decides what's an unforced error in tennis? From my observation, mostly confirmed by this piece, it's very young people, often teenagers, who are given a computer and a good vantage point and told to make that judgment.

I just took a look at the entry lists for Kalamazoo, and I couldn't help but notice a few prominent absences.

First of all, Donald Young isn't entered. I guess he figures he's a lock for a U.S. Open wild card.

Second, Chase Buchanan isn't entered. This after withdrawing from the Clays. Anyone know what's going on with him? By my count, he's played a total of six competitive matches this year.

Others not entered: Tyler Hochwalt, Adam El Mihdawy, Jason Jung, and Nate Schnugg (who I believe is still eligible). Also, Junior Ore isn't on the entry list for the 16s.

The 16s will be fun to follow. Frank Carleton and J.T. Sundling are dropping down to the 16s, as are Evan King and Bob Van Overbeek. Ryan Harrison, Alex Domijan, Denis Lin, Devin Britton, Kevin King, and of course Rhyne Williams are playing up.

Emmett Egger and Christian Harrison aren't listed for the 16s, so it looks like they're dropping back down to the 14s.

Until the wild cards are named later this week, I wouldn't assume that those players are out of Kalamazoo.
Young was not expected to enter, although he was careful to say when asked at Wimbledon that he did not know definitively that he would get a wild card to the US Open main draw.

Emmett Egger and Christian Harrison will be playing in an international team event elsewhere during San Antonio.
