Rhyne Williams Withdraws from Kalamazoo

Second seed Rhyne Williams has withdrawn from Kalamazoo with an injury. The draw was not redone; all seeded players move up one spot and Eric Quigley is awarded the 32 seed.

Bob Van Overbeek, the No. 10 seed in 16s and Shaun Bernstein, the 23rd seed in 16s, withdrew as well. Van Overbeek, who injured his knee at the Clays, was on crutches when I saw him at the Evert Academy a week ago, so I'm not surprised he has withdrawn. I haven't heard the reason for Bernstein's withdrawal. Neither seed has been replaced.

The list of participants, seeds and alternates is now available from a link on the upper left section of the home page of ustaboys.com, or directly via this link.

There you go Eric! Take it down. Should have been seeded anyway.

So they didn't add 2 more seeds in the 16s like they did in the 18s?

Wow, Williams is a huge loss to the 18s draw and Overbeek is a fairly big loss to the 16s draw. Very disappointing.

Chase Buchanan is probably feeling a little better about his draw now.

Williams would not have made it past the 4th round. Looks like Damico has his work cut out for him now.

I love it, zoo is going to be drama filled and so interesting this year!

thats so stupid how they didnt fill the 2 seeds for the 16s as well...

Off topic -- G18's -- C. Gullikson not seeded.....the USTA does such a disservice to the draw by not seeding a player of that caliber.......heads in sand (very nice way of saying)....

I misinterpreted your note that the draw was not redone in the 18s for Williams' withdrawal. In the ATP, it seems like, they just drop the 'lucky loser' into the slot that was just evacuated and literally nothing else changes. Here they moved everyone up in seed, and then moved the required seeds (the old #3, #5, #9, and #17) to avoid the chance of two top 8s playing before the quarters, for example. The result is that, Buchanan and Jung, didn't get the home run from this announcement that I originally thought. Damico just replaced Williams in their section. Forman, Krajicek, and Schnugg are the other ones who moved in the draw in addition to Quigley. Definitely changes things up a bit b/c Schnugg is now in the top half with McClune and Forman's draw just got easier.

Given the shifting in the draw, I will now call Schnugg over Thacher in the final with McClune and Carleton the other semifinalists.
