Colette, any sense for how Kzoo gets seeded? Do they have to follow some USTA formula or do they have discretion based on college results, ATP results, etc.? This year will be a challenging task to figure out how you compare a McClune vs. a Schnugg vs. Bowles, for example. I know it will all get figured out on the court eventually, but just curious if you had any insight into the process?
I didn't see Christian Harrison's name on the 16s list. I was looking forward to seeing him in Kzoo for the first time. Is he dropping back to the 14s for nationals?
Christian will be going to the Czech Republic for the ITF's World Junior Team Championships Aug 6-11.
Brent,
The Friend of Court breaks it down to Top 1000 ATP, Top 100 ITF and USTA National Standing, in that order. There is no guidance on college players. For the table with the seeding criteria, see usta.com for a link to the pdf of the Friend of Court booklet. The table is on page clxxiv (164).
They dont really use USTA rankings for kalamazoo. Kronauge was #1 in the country in 2005 and was seeded 21st
Nice work by the ITF scheduling the World Junior Team Championships right on top of Kzoo. Yeesh. It's not like Kzoo just moved to the first week in August.
Who else is representing the US?
what will carelton and sundling be seeded? Being as they have not played to many 16s.
I'm not sure if the USTA has officially announced the team yet, but I believe it is Harrison, Emmett Egger and Mika DeCoster.
I'm pretty sure those are the definites unless they pull out. I think it's shady that they are the same time as our national championships. Our hard courts have been the same dates for as long as I can remember.
I love how the Zoo seeds 1-32 but then have some wacky matchups when they meet. They might as well just alpha seed. In the end they tend to get the top 4-8 correct so it usually works out.
