Mike Nishihara Dies Suddenly

There's sad news to report with the untimely death of USTA High Performance Strength and Conditioning Coach Mike Nishihara earlier this week of an apparent heart attack.
I've been searching for an obituary or news story to link to since I heard about this Wednesday, but I haven't been able to track anything down. If anyone has any information or a link, please leave a comment.

Mike had a heart attack while working out on the court at Crandon Park. He was taken to the hospital but they could not revive him. He had a history of heart attacks in his family. His father died at 41 of an attack. He was a great friend and trainer and will be missed dearly.

He is one of my best friends. He was nicest, most genuine people you could ever meet. I am still in disbelief...

I attended Nish's service last night in Fort Lauderdale. It was beautiful and inspiring event. With standing room only attendance, family and friends shared stories of Nish's kind heart, his infectious laugh, his special friendship, love of life, and generous spirit. The night demonstrated the impact Nish had on the USTA, his friends, family, and ALL the lives he touched. He will be sorely missed by all. Thank you for all youve done Mike, Aloha.

Mike was my mentor, a person who really gave me the direction and the path that I am on today. He gave so much to me in the time I was with him. Without Mike, I would not be where I am today. I will never forget Mike as a mentor, a friend, and a person who I always looked up to. I will miss you my friend.

Mike was my physical trainer coach and he was the best and the nicest one in the world, he was a really great friend. I was at his memorial and there was a big picture of him in the middle of the room and it showed him happy. For the time that i was with Nish he was always happy I dont remember one time when he was sad or mad. He was always smiling and giving his friendly laugh.

Mike was my physical trainer coach and most importantly a great friend, and for the time that i was with him he was never sad or mad. He always had a big smile and was always very positive. When he laughed he would always bring a smile to your face. I was at his memorial and there were many people there a that loved and appreciated him. I will miss him dearly, and i will always have him in mind.

I grew up, living next door to the Nishihara family. I was there when Mike's father passed. I grew up with Mike and His brother and sisters. As a kid he was one of the nicest, sweetest guys you would ever want to know. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. It is nice to see however that he remained a decent man. I am glad to see he had many friends, and left good thoughts behind. Aloha Mike. Mike O'Grady
