All-Day Rain at Wimbledon Pushes First Round into Wednesday; Ngounoue Reaches Roehampton ITF J300 Quarterfinals; J60 in Orlando Underway; Lakewood $15Ks Qualifying Complete; Bloomfield Hills Challenger Update

Only eight matches were completed today at Wimbledon and all those results were from the two courts with roofs. There are 84 matches on the schedule for Wednesday, which thankfully is expected to be dry, with a mix of first and second round matches.

The only American who completed a match today was Shelby Rogers, who lost her first round match to defending champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Centre Court.

Those who were first on this morning did get to complete a set or two; in the update of American results below, I've added those partial results. All Americans scheduled to play today, except for Rogers, of course, will play or resume their first round matches Wednesday. Doubles play was set to begin Wednesday, but that has been pushed back to Thursday, with 84 singles matches on the schedule.

Tuesday's first round matches featuring Americans:

Elena Rybakina[3](KAZ) Shelby Rogers 4-6, 6-1, 6-2

Danielle Collins leads Julia Grabher(AUT) 6-4,
Sloane Stephens v Rebecca Peterson(SWE)

Frances Tiafoe[10] v Yibing Wu(CHN)
Marcos Giron leads Hugo Dellien(BOL) 7-6(2), 1-2

Maxime Cressy v Laslo Djere(SRB)
Taylor Fritz[9] leads Yannick Hanfmann(GER) 6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 3-2*

Wednesday's second round matches featuring Americans:

Alycia Parks v Anna Bogdan(ROU)
Sofia Kenin[Q] v Xinyu Wang(CHN)

Michael Mmoh[LL] v Maximilian Marterer(GER)
JJ Wolf v Alexander Bublik[23](KAZ)

The rain also derailed the third round of the ITF J300 in Roehampton, although 12 of the 16 singles matches were completed. The only American to reach the quarterfinals is top seed Clervie Ngounoue, who defeated British wild card Given Roach(Georgia Tech) 6-2, 6-2. Ngounoue will play No. 5 seed Sayaka Ishii of Japan in the quarterfinals. Alexander Razeghi, the only boy reaching the third round, lost to British wild card Viktor Frydrych 6-4, 7-5. Wild card Isabelle Lacy of Great Britain defeated No. 3 seed and Roland Garros finalist Lucciana Perez Alarcon of Peru 6-3, 6-4.

No second round doubles matches were completed today. Live scoring is available at Tennis Ticker

In Monday's recap of the previous week on the ITF Junior Circuit neglected to mention the ITF J60 taking place this week at Lake Nona. The tournament is on clay, to assist in providing preparation for next week's USTA National Clay Court Championships, which I will unfortunately not be able to cover, as I am going to be at Wimbledon for the Junior Championships. The quarterfinals are set for Wednesday, with the top two boys seeds Matisse Farzam and Jack Kennedy still in the mix, but the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the girls draw were beaten today. Lucia Donnelly defeated top seed Brooke Schafer 6-3, 7-5 and Thea Latak beat No. 2 seed Katerina Shabashkevich 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Main draw action begins Wednesday at the SoCal Pro Series men's and women's $15Ks in Lakewood, with qualifying finishing up today.

The top seed in the men's draw was Colin Sinclair(Cornell), who won the first leg of the summer's seven tournaments in the section. But he was still playing the qualifying at the Bloomfield Hills Challenger, so he was withdrawn, and last week's Irvine champion Learner Tien(USC) went into the top spot, as the highest ranked player who was not seeded.  The No. 2 seed is Omni Kumar(Duke), who won the Los Angeles $15K two weeks ago.

American men qualifying today are Keegan Smith(UCLA), Dominique Rolland(Arizona), Azuma Visaya(UCLA), Maxwell McKennon(Arizona State), Alex Jones, Noah Zamora(UC-Irvine) and Stefan Menichella(Pepperdine).

Wild cards were awarded to Jacob Bullard(Texas, Arizona State), Karl Lee(UCLA/USC), Rohan Murali(Harvard) and UCLA recruit Rudy Quan. Jaden Weekes(Kentucky) of Canada received entry via the ITF junior reserved program.

The top seed in the women's draw is Southern Californian Hanna Chang, who at 318 in the WTA rankings, is way above the No. 2 seed, Eryn Cayetano(USC) at 701. Last week's Irvine champion Haley Giavara is the No. 3 seed.

Americans qualifying today are 15-year-old Alexis Nguyen, the reigning 16s Orange Bowl champion,  Savannah Broadus(Pepperdine), Taylor Cataldi(Wisconsin), Mary Stoiana(Texas A&M), Elise Wagle(UCLA), Emma Charney(USC), Makayla Mills(Clemson/Kentucky) and Emily Gelber(Brown).

Wild cards were awarded to Taylor Johnson(UCLA/SMU), 16-year-old Claire Zhang, 14-year-old Thea Frodin and 16-year-old Daniela Borruel.

The inaugural ATP Challenger 75 Cranbrook Classic in Bloomfield Hills Michigan got off to a rough start Sunday with rain and storms not allowing the any of the first round qualifying matches to finish, so it was today before qualifying was completed, although 11 main draw first round matches were also on the schedule. Kei Nishikori of Japan is continuing his injury comeback, two weeks after he won his first tournament back at the ATP Challenger in Puerto Rico. Nishikori defeated Adam Walton(Tennessee) of Australia 6-1, 6-2.

This is the first week that collegians could take advantage of the ATP's new Accelerator Program and there were a host of them in both the qualifying and main draw. Unfortunately none made it out of qualifying and in the main draw, ITA National Player of the Year Eliot Spizzirri of Texas lost his match to No. 5 seed Alexis Galarneau(NC State) of Canada 7-6(3), 6-3 this afternoon, and  Nishesh Basavareddy(Stanford) was beaten by Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Basavareddy was using the new ITF Junior Accelerator Program for entry. Michael Zheng(Columbia), who received a wild card, lost to No. 2 seed Emilio Gomez(USC) of Ecuador 6-4, 6-1.

NCAA champion Ethan Quinn(Georgia), who also received a wild card, will play a qualifier in his first round match Wednesday.
