The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its ITA Players of the Year today, with Florida's Lauren Embree and Virginia's Jarmere Jenkins receiving the awards.  Both finished at the top of the singles rankings and will be honored this weekend at the ATP Hall of Fame Championships in Newport, Rhode Island.

Southern Cal's Sabrina Santamaria and Kaitlyn Christian were named the women's doubles team of the year, and Duke's Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler were named the men's doubles team of the year.  Of the four year-end awards, only Santamaria and Christian won the NCAA championships.  They also will not be able to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony, since they are representing the US in the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

For the complete release on the career achievements of Embree and Jenkins--and there are many--see the ITA website.

If anyone has the time to read this article about the The Private Sector vs. USTA PD, I found it very interesting.

http://www.10sballs.com/2013/07/07/the-emperor-has-no-clothes-by-american-guardian-of-the-game/

My frustration lands on many of the subjects, but mostly, taking players from private coaches and hiring mostly foreign coaches.

Finally how can the USTA PD leadership be voted out? Seems like a dictatorship with no accountability and zero results. Not One.

Thank you for sharing the article but the sad story is, the only people that can remove the PD leadership is the USTA itself. That is the problem.

The only person on their staff with proven leadership and success is Tom Gullikson. He ran PD with the most success. He let the private sector coach American juniors and assigned USTA coaches to American professionals, if needed. He hired American coaches.

The PD has wasted over 75 million dollars in the past 7 years trying to develop their own. IT HAS NEVER WORKED, they are even trying to scrap out 1 player and they cannot.

Hiring foreign coaches is hypocritical and embarrassing.

Director of Coaching is not based at National Headquarters and rarely there.

Director of Player Development is not a full time position.

Who and When can we put a stop to this mess? How low can it go?
