ITA All-American Championships Entries; Chan, Grechkina Sweep Battle of the Bay Titles; Banerjee, Stearns Qualify for Columbus Challenger; Two US ITF J200 Finalists, Two J60 Champions

The entries for the ITA All-American Championships have been released, with the men's tournament in Tulsa Oklahoma and the women's tournament in Cary North Carolina. Pre-qualifying begins Saturday, qualifying begins Monday and the main draw starts on Wednesday.

The men's field includes NCAA champion Michael Zheng of Columbia, last year's ITA Rookie of the Year Rafael Jodar of Virginia (read this ATP article about the 18-year-old from Spain, who turns 19 Wednesday), Winston-Salem Challenger finalist Trevor Svajda of SMU, India's Davis Cup hero DK Suresh of Wake Forest, Winston-Salem quarterfinalist Aidan Kim of Ohio State and World University Games champion Jay Friend of Arizona. I'm surprised to see Pedro Rodenas of Duke in the entries, as he is not on Duke's roster for this fall. Oliver Tarvet of San Diego, last year's champion is expected back for the dual match season, but is not enrolled this fall.

The withdrawal deadline for main draw is tomorrow, so the actual field may not include all those on the current entry list.

The women's field is missing three of the top 8 in the preseason rankings, with no Celia-Belle Mohr[2] of Vanderbilt, Cadence Brace of LSU[4] or Nicole Khirin of Texas A&M[7]. Defending champion Maria Sholokova of Wisconsin, No. 8 in the preseason rankings, is entered, as is 2024 fall NCAA finalist DJ Bennett of Auburn, 2024 spring NCAA finalist Anastasia Lopata of Georgia,  USTA US Open collegiate playoff winner Valerie Glozman of Stanford, 2023 ITA National Fall Champion Reese Brantmeier of North Carolina and 2024 ITA Rookie of the Year Luciana Perry of Ohio State.

Freshman Mayu Crossley of UCLA received a wild card into the main draw. Oklahoma senior Luis Alvarez received a wild card into the main draw. The other wild cards in the field are from the ITA Summer Championships or those given to the hosts.

TCU junior Duncan Chan, who is in singles qualifying at the All-American Championships, swept the titles at the Battle of the Bay in San Francisco, one of the top early fall tournaments, this past weekend. Chan defeated 2024 NCAA fall finalist Ozan Baris of Michigan State 7-5, 6-4 in the singles final, while partnering with Cosme Rolland de Ravel for the doubles title. For more on his titles, see this article from gofrogs.com

Pepperdine sophomore Anastasiia Grechkina swept the women's titles at Battle of the Bay, defeating Rose Marie Nijkamp of Oklahoma State 6-0, 6-3 in the singles final, while partnering with Alexia Harmon for the doubles title. Grechkina is a main draw entry in the women's All-American Championships. For more on her titles, see this article from pepperdinewaves.com.

Qualifying concluded today at the ATP Challenger 75 in Columbus Ohio, with two Americans reaching the main draw: Stanford senior Samir Banerjee and Ohio State junior Preston Stearns. Today's qualifying and main draw results, plus Tuesday's schedule is below:

Two Americans reached finals of J200s last week: Karlin Schock in Montreal Canada and William Zhang in Nanjing China

Zhang, a 17-year-old Yale commit from Irvine California, qualified and won a round at an M15 in Maanshan China at the beginning of the month before playing the J200 in Nanjing. Unseeded, he didn't drop a set until the final, where he fell to top seed Kuan-Shou Chen of Taiwan 6-1, 6-1. Zhang for some reason wasn't given a special exempt into this week's J300 in Beijing, but he has qualified for the main draw. Zhang nearly halved his ITF junior ranking, moving to a career-high of 322. Fifteen-year-old Sarah Ye made the girls doubles final.

Schock, a 17-year-old from Green Bay Wisconsin, was also unseeded in Montreal, and she too lost to the top seed. Schock, now up to a career-high 168 in the ITF junior rankings, lost to top seed and Georgia commit Nadia Lagaev of Canada 6-1, 6-0 in the final. She also reached the doubles final with Reagan Levine, with the unseeded pair losing to top seeds Lagaev and Isabell DeLuccia 6-2, 6-4. No. 4 seeds Shaan Majeed and Erik Schinnerer reached the boys doubles final, losing to No. 2 seeds Xavier Massotte and Dani Szabo of Canada. Szabo reached the final in singles, losing to No. 7 seed Benjamin Azar of Canada 6-2, 6-4.

At the J60 in Honduras, 15-year-old Anay Kulkarni won his second ITF Junior Circuit singles title, with the No. 4 seed beating top seed Austin Taco 6-0, 6-3 in the all-USA final. Kulkarni also took the doubles title, with David Madero. The unseeded Americans defeated No. 4 seeds Felip Buritica and Luis Santiago Segovaa Pichina of Colombia 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.

Sarah Stoyanov split the girls titles, as the top seed in both singles and doubles. The 17-year-old won her fifth career ITF Junior Circuit singles title, beating No. 2 seed Alison Julieta Oliva Ramirez of Guatemala 6-3, 6-2 in the final. In the doubles final, Stoyanov and Sofia Mills lost to No. 2 seeds Ramirez and Asia Sundas of Italy 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.
