Goode Qualifies for Winston-Salem Challenger; Vidmanova Posts First Top 100 Win in WTA 500 in Guadalajara; US Open Boys Finalists Ivanov and Vasilev No. 1 and No. 2 in ITF Junior Rankings; Lilov Signs with Ohio State

Seventeen-year-old Gavin Goode was unsuccessful in his first two attempts to gain an ATP point this spring as a wild card at M15s and M25s in Orlando. But coming off his first ITF J300 final in Repentigny last month, Goode now has four of them, qualifying today at this week's ATP Challenger 75 in Winston-Salem North Carolina. The left-hander from Raleigh defeated University of Virginia sophomore Jangjun Kim of Korea 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in today's final round of qualifying and will face another Cavalier sophomore in the first round: Rafael Jodar of Spain. The 19-year-old Jodar, who won his first Challenger title last month, is enrolled at Virginia this fall, but will play many of the USTA Pro Circuit hard court Challengers in the coming months, rather than collegiate events. The 2025 ITA Rookie of the Year is currently 369 in the ATP rankings.

Wake Forest freshman Dominick Mosejczuk lost to Pepperdine junior Edward Winter of Australia 7-6(6), 6-3, but three other Americans reached the main draw through qualifying: Duke junior Cooper Williams, who beat Vanderbilt sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez of Spain 7-6(4), 3-6, 7-6(2) in a three-hour-plus contest; Quinn Vandecasteele(Oregon), who beat Texas A&M sophomore Theo Papamalamis of France 7-5, 7-6(2), and recent Harvard graduate Daniel Milavsky, who defeated Joshua Sheehy(Abliene Christian) 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 two hours and 44 minutes.

Six first round matches are being played this evening, with just two results so far. Antoine Ghibaudo of France, a sophomore at Kentucky, defeated No. 6 seed Garrett Johns(Duke) 6-3, 6-4, and Martin Damm beat wild card Emon van Loben Sels(UCLA) 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3.

Dasha Vidmanov, who won the NCAA singles, doubles and team titles in her illustrious career at Georgia, earned her first WTA Top 100 win today at the WTA 500 in Guadalajara Mexico. The 22-year-old from the Czech Republic, 161 in the WTA rankings, qualified for her first WTA main draw with wins over Emina Bektas(Michigan) and Ena Shibahara(UCLA) of Japan. Today she defeated No. 7 seed and WTA 58 Alycia Parks 6-2, 6-4. Vidmanova will play fellow Czech Nikola Bartunkova, a 19-year-old wild card who reached the Wimbledon girls final in 2023.

Iva Jovic is also through to the second round in Guadalajara, beating Katarzyna Kawa of Poland 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 this evening.

The post-US Open ITF junior rankings were released today, with two Bulgarians are at the top of the boys list. Ivan Ivanov, the US Open boys champion, was already at No. 1 after his Wimbledon title, so he has now built a substantial lead in rankings. US Open boys finalist Alexander Vasilev has moved up to No. 2, after starting the tournament at No. 7.

Zangar Nurlanuly of Kazakhstan is up to a career-high of 25 after his semifinal appearance, and Andrew Johnson goes from 109 to 60 after his run to the quarterfinals.

Julieta Pareja retains her No. 1 ranking in the ITF juniors, but she is less than 50 points ahead of Hannah Klugman, who is up to a career-high of 2 in the ITF rankings after her appearance in the semifinals. Champion Jeline Vandromme is up to a career-high 3, and is less than 200 points behind Pareja.

Surprise finalist Lea Nilsson moved up 58 spots, to No. 26, coming all the way through qualifying to become the first Swedish girl in the US Open singles final.

Welles Newman, the 15-year-old wild card, made a nice jump to No. 71 after reaching the third round.
