New Look for Tennis Recruiting Network; Gator Bowl Champions, Watch NCAA Selection Show on ESPNews Tuesday

The Tennis Recruiting Network has a new look, with the landing page now having more than just the day's feature story. The most recent content can now be found in the upper left hand corner, and there are sections for much of the information that took some digging to find before. I am happy that the zootennis feed is prominently displayed in the center of the page, and I particularly like the "at-a-glance" nature of the latest commitments. The website has always been a fantastic resource for junior tennis players and their coaches and families, as well as college coaches, and I hope the increased exposure of all the information they have to offer will lead to even more attention for it.

The ATP Gator Bowl, a USTA Level 3 tournament for 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s wrapped up today in the Jacksonville, Fla. area. Top seed Danielle Collins of Florida won her third straight 18s Gator Bowl title and her fifth overall, defeating No. 2 seed Molly O'Koniewski 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Unseeded Garrett Gordon of Georgia defeated top seed Russell Bader 7-6(5), 6-4 for the Boys 18s title. In the 16s, two unseeded Florida boys--Joshua Goodman and 12-year-old Stefan Kozlov--reached the finals, with Goodman winning 6-2, 6-1. The girls 16s title went to top seed Brittany Lindl of Florida, who defeated No. 2 seed Kathryn Hoch 6-1, 6-4. Pennsylvania's Jessica Ho, the No. 1 seed, won the girls 14s over Jessie Lynn Paul, and the boys 14s title went to top seed Sunay Bhat of Tennessee, who beat unseeded Oliver Landert in the final. Noah Makarome and Jaclyn Switkes won the 12s titles. For complete results, see the TennisLink site.

You may have seen a couple of my tweets this morning from the $50,000 Pro Circuit Challenger in Savannah, Ga. International Spring Champion Dan Kosakowski, who received a wild card into the event, took a set from Bobby Reynolds, the former Vanderbilt star who was ranked 63rd early last year before injury derailed his season. Reynolds recovered however, to post a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory over the UCLA recruit. The staff at the Challenger is providing live results via their facebook page or website.

Qualifying is complete at the Orange Park Futures, and Junior Ore and Bjorn Fratangelo advanced to the main draw with wins today. Ore beat Felipe Mantilla of Colombia 6-1, 6-3, and Fratangelo defeated Spencer Newman 7-6(5), 6-2. I also want to apologize for overlooking Ridley Seguso in my list yesterday of those juniors who had reached the final round of qualifying. Seguso, 16, who hasn't played any junior events this year, qualified for his first Futures main draw with three straight-set wins.

For complete results, see the Pro Circuit page at usta.com.

The new Campbell ITA rankings are out, with the Texas women bumping South Carolina out of the 16th spot after reaching the Big 12 tournament final. There were a few minor changes in the men's top 16 rankings, but all 16 stayed the same. We'll see tomorrow if those positions matter when the draws and seedings are announced on ESPNews, between 5 and 6 p.m. Eastern time. For the complete rankings, see the ITA site.

I hope they give the home sites to the top 16. It's fair! USC and UGA women out of the top 16! Wow! But, on the other hand. I wouldn't want to be the #1 seed that plays them in the second round. They might be playing with a little chip on their shoulder. Can't wait for Athens!

Wonder if the seedings will follow the rankings. You could potentially have numerous intranet conference matchups in the round of 16. Duke and UVa could play for a 3d time. Same with OSU & Illinois. Texas Tech and Texas too. Florida & UK would meet a second time. Ideally, it seems like it'd be better for these teams to play someone else instead of so many teams playing such familiar opponents in Athens.

I think the Florida women win the NCAA without being tested.

When I read Bruce Jenkins on Tennis (SI.com), I get the sense he's the promoters of Golf are signing his paycheck. Way to be a tennis ambassador Bruce!
