North Carolina and Georgia Meet for Women's Team Indoor Title Monday; Perez Alarcon Ends Jovic's Winning Streak; Boitan Earns First Pro Circuit Singles Title at Palm Coast $15K

North Carolina and Georgia will meet Monday for the ITA Women's National Team Indoor title in Seattle after both posted two tense 4-2 victories Sunday.

Georgia defeated Cinderella Iowa State in match that featured three straightforward two-set matches and three extremely close contests. Georgia won the doubles point easily, but after Iowa State found its form, the battle was on, and it took a three-set win from Guillermina Grant at line 6 to seal the first Indoor final since 2019 for the Bulldogs.

No. 2 seed North Carolina dropped the doubles point to No. 3 seed Texas A&M without much resistance, and they are the only team all weekend who won a main draw match after losing the doubles point. The Tar Heels took four first sets in singles, so they had a pathway to victory, but the route got much more complicated, with four matches going to third sets. North Carolina did get straight-sets victories from Fiona Crawley at line 1 and Reese Brantmeier at line 2, and then three-set wins from Elizabeth Scotty at line 5 and the clinching victory from Carson Tanguilig at line 3, in a third-set tiebreaker over Salma Ewing.

North Carolina has now reached the last nine National Team Indoor finals, a streak that borders on unbelievable. They will be playing for their fourth consecutive title Monday; no women's team has ever won four Indoor titles in a row. They'll be taking on the last team to beat them in an Indoor final, with Georgia winning the 2019 title over North Carolina in Seattle. The two teams played earlier this year, with UNC winning 5-2 in Chapel Hill.
