The men's Futures in North America finished today with one American singles champion, top seed JC Aragone, who won the $25,000 tournament in British Columbia. Aragone defeated wild card Alexis Galarneau of Canada, a rising junior at NC State, 6-2, 6-3 in the final.
At the $25,000 Futures in Tulsa Oklahoma, Florida recruit Sam Riffice lost in the final to Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland. Huesler, the No. 7 seed, handed the unseeded Riffice his third Futures final loss, 6-4, 6-2.
The singles title at the $15,000 Futures in Pittsburgh went to Mateo Martinez of Argentina, who defeated No. 3 seed Alejandro Gomez(Kentucky) of Colombia 6-4, 6-4.
Allie Kiick won her first title since coming back a year ago, after a series of illnesses and injuries had kept her from competing for two years. The No. 2 seed, who turned 23 yesterday, defeated No. 5 seed Isabella Shinikova of Bulgaria 6-2, 6-1 in the final of the $25,000 ITF Women's Circuit event in Bastad Sweden. Kiick did not drop a set all week.
On the ITF Junior Circuit, top seed and French Open champion Chun Hsin Tseng of Taiwan retired in his first round match at the Grade 1 in Roehampton, leading British wild card Anton Matusevich 5-4 in the first set. Tseng is scheduled to be the top seed in the Wimbledon Junior Championships, so I hope it's not a serious injury.
US girls went 7-4 in the first round, with Whitney Osuigwe[1], Katie Volynets, Caty McNally[12], Peyton Stearns, Coco Gauff[3], Alexa Noel and Hurricane Tyra Black picking up wins. The boys went 4-5, with two seeded players falling: Tristan Boyer[10] and Drew Baird[13]. Trey Hilderbrand, Brandon Nakashima, Cannon Kingsley and Sebastian Korda[2] won their opening matches.
The results from the ITF Grade 4 in Aruba have been posted, with Phillip Jordan and Jennifer Gadalov winning the singles titles. The 17-year-old Jordan, seeded No. 2, defeated unseeded Patrick Sydow of Aruba 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the final to earn his first ITF singles title. He also won the doubles championship, with Alexandre Leblanc of Canada. The top seeds defeated No. 4 seeds Murphy Cassone and Canada's Marko Stakusic 6-4, 7-6(5) in the final.
No. 5 seed Gadalov, 17, defeated No. 6 seed Madison Sieg 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the all-American final for her third ITF singles tile. Sieg won the doubles title, with partner Rachel Gailis. The No. 3 seeds defeated No. 4 seeds Elan Mnatsakanov and Nikita Vishwase 7-5, 6-3 in another all-US final.
