Mobile Wrap; Illinois High School Tennis Minus Evan King

My weekly post for The Tennis Recruiting Network wraps up the USTA 18s Spring Nationals in Mobile. It was interesting to hear, late in the tournament, how many players feel that they are not able to play both Mobile and the Easter Bowl, due to the amount of school they miss. Mobile finalist Lauren Embree will be playing the Easter Bowl this year, but last year she did not, in order to play high school tennis (unsurprisingly, she won the state championships). This year, she is not playing high school tennis, because the Easter Bowl conflicts with the district competition. The word from the LA Times is that Ryan Thacher (who is not eligible for the Easter Bowl) is once again playing on Harvard-Westlake's team.

Evan King is another high school junior that is not playing for his school, now that he has taken up residence at the USTA Training Center in Boca Raton. This story, from the Chicago Tribune, discusses King's possible successor at the top of the Illinois high school heap, Denis Bogatov. Although there are some errors, (since when is the USTA academy in Coral Gables, Fla?) the discussion of Bogatov's year at an academy and his future ambitions is worth reading.

I haven't. I'll email the tournament to see if they have any info on that.

Florida men took out No. 5 Ole Miss this afternoon in the hostile territory of Oxford. After losing the doubles point by 8-4 on all 3 courts, the Gators came back big time to win on courts 1,2, 3, 5 and 6, with only court 2 going to 3 sets. Erik Corace clinched at no. 6, his first singles match in a couple of months. This victory is the second in 3 days after Florida beat the Vols on Tuesday in a close one.

Watch out for these guys in the next month, they are getting better and better with every match they play. They are deep and talented, now with tons of confidence... and can give anybody in the country fits. For anybody who saw Georgia and Florida play, it was no walk in the park for the Dawgs and they were very lucky to get on their bus with the "w".

Yeah a lot of teams seem to be coming of age . USC also went to Texas and came away with a strong win there. Florida, USC and Pepperdine will be tough at Ncaas outdoors the way they are playing right now

This year's Easter Bowl is going to lack some of its usual luster. No Ryan Harrison, no Rhyne Williams, no Ty Trombetta, no Devin Britton, no Austin Krajicek (he's playing in college, I know) . . .

Aside from Krajicek, I'm very surprised those guys aren't playing. Is there something else going on that week?
