How Bizarre: Nats End with a Bang and a Whimper

I never saw this coming: the whole week was nearly perfect and then food poisoning strikes. Jamie Hunt sick during the 18s doubles final; Jesse Levine unable to take the court for the 18s final due to food poisoning; Brennan Boyajian doubled over with stomach pain during the 16s championship match and vomiting after.

It's hard to imagine a 7-6 in the third final (I believe the first ever in the 16s) being overshadowed or upstaged, but this episode of ER has almost done it.

See ustaboys.com for the match story.

The 16's final was fantastic! After almost three hours of emotional ups and downs, I'm not sure I could have survived watching Young and Levine in the 18's without needing medical attention myself. I'm sure glad that we decided to show up for the 16's final. The crowd that showed up just for the 18's were surely dissapointed.

How bizarre. Does anyone have an idea as to how these three finalists ended up getting sick? Did they frequent the same place?
Did they attend the finalist dinner?
It is an unfortunate ending, without question.

I just want to comment back to austin on one of his earleir comments about the seeding at kalamazoo. I didn't have an oustanding kalamazoo, but I did hold my seed and get to the quarters and lost to the eventual champion. So I was just wondering how many matches you have seen me play recently and where you get off saying that I shouldn't be seeded sixth? I had never been to this site before I heard about it and I read some of your other comments and it is very clear you do not know much of what you are talking about. You need to realize just looking at results doesn't mean everything, you need to actually be at matches and see what happens for yourself and how people deal with pressure and match situations. Just as an ending note if you're an adult and you get on this site constantly to bash teenage kids you probably need to find something else to do with your time.

DREW DANIEL ROCKS!!!

My respect for Drew Daniel just went up so much.

Drew Daniel brings up a good point. Most tennis articles are written based on scores only. Writers do not take time to actually see the match they are commenting on and they usually have no clue about what is going on beyond the score. Drew has every right to be angry and I do respect him for sticking up for himself. GO DREW!!!!

GO SQUEAK!!! Whoever Austin is doesnt have a clue what they're talking about...

Perhaps a little a seasoning might cure such a tender skin; It is a good thing you only play tennis, comments about your abilities in some sports- i.e. "trash talk" would kill you. Just count your blessings you are not D. Young and represent!

First of all, I wasn't trying to bash you Drew, but I had to use an example and you were it. I know you are 16yrs old so I am not going to talk about you the way I would if you were a pro because your still growing into your game. Also, I am a few years out of juniors, not an adult like you wrote. If I am 35yrs old and still saying things like that then yeah, I probably will need help, haha.

But one thing I do have to say, and I really don't want this argument to continue because it wasn't meant to be that way, but since people are bashing my comments I must defend my statements. It has been posted that I have no clue what I'm talking about, but the fact is that I was actually right in my prediction that you should be seeded lower. And by that I meant like 10th or something, I still thought you were an awesome tennis player as your results indicate.

Yes, you made it to the quarters, but by beating the 27th and 29th seeds, which you should have. Then you lost in straight sets to the #1 seed and eventual winner, as you should have. Then you lost to the #7 seed 2&4 in the backdraw quarters. So you finished tied for 9-12th and lost to someone seeded below you when you should have won two backdraw matches and made it to the backdraw finals. You still did awesome and you should be very proud of yourself, your one of the premiere tennis players in the country for your age and will at least be a very successful college player. I was not bashing him for those others who said I was a moron for my comments, but the fact is that technically I was right. Let's let this issue/argument die because there was no intention of bashing a 16yr old kid. This is a tennis blog and I gave my unbiased opinion based on the facts. And remember, to begin with I still thought he should have been seeded around 10th, not exactly saying that he was awful, 182 other kids would die to be seeded 10th. Good luck if you get to play in the US Open juniors.

Austin: Drew Daniel is the #6 seed, seriously?!? Based on what, other than his dominance in the 12's and 14's?

For some reason that just makes it sound like you think he shouldn't be seeded in the top 16.

All the other players you listed you felt were seeded to low. If I were Drew Daniel I would take it personally as well, he was the only one you listed as being seeded to high. Oh and wait, let's see how the guys you thought were seeded to low did...

Waylon Chin: Didn't hold his seed, got hard draw in the main's but lost 2 and 3 in the backs.

Andy Magee: 2 and out.

Justin Kronauge: Lost 1st rd. Didn't hold up his seed in the back.

Dylan Arnould: Had a tough match in the main's, but pulled out of the back so really didn't hold his seed.

So if your "technically" right about drew daniel's seeding (which i dont agree with) Then your technically wrong about all the others.

And you never answered drew's question: Have you seen him play? I think that is an important question to answer. And since you've been getting all technical, if your a "few years out of the juniors" wouldn't that make you an adult? What are you doing commenting all the time on this if you dont see any of these players play?

Last thing, if you wanted this to die down you should have just let it be. It seems like your desperately trying to defend a comment that was wrong.

A little advice from Dr. Angle. Young tennis players have fun on the court and off too. You're all winners. Don't let these old farts upset you with their negative words and vibrations.

I said Waylon Chin and Andy Magee's seeds seemed really odd since they were seeded much higher last year, but I didn't have a fact-based opinion whether or not they should have been higher, just thought it was odd, now I guess it was on the money. Yes, I was clearly wrong about Kronauge. Regarding Daniel, did he lose to the #7 seed or didn't he? If he did I am right, if he didn't I am wrong, check the draw.

Seeding committee, I agreed with most of what you did. Don't like me disagreeing with the big, powerful people, oh well. It comes with the territory. Just imagine how much flack you would get if you were on a basketball or football committee. Just be thankful you are in tennis instead.

I just want to point out that the difference between being seeded 6th and 7th is zero...the only seeds that matter is the difference between the 5,9, and 17 seeds. so whether daniel is the 5th,6th,7th, or 8th seed it wouldnt make a difference.

Very true, being a 5 seed sucks because you are one out from being top 4. 5 through 8 doesn't really matter, but when you are a 9 seed, that means you have to play a top 8 seed in the round of 16...kinda sucks. Then 9 through 16 doesnt matter, and if you are 17 through 32 then you really got it bad because you have to play a top 16 seed in the round of 32.
