Sundling the lone titlist in T.O. trio:: Ventura County Star (registration required)
Sundling the lone titlist in T.O. trio:--There is no question that JT Sundling is the gold (ball) standard in boys 14s right now (and I have to wonder why he wasn't representing the U.S. in the 14 & unders in the Czech Republic at the World Junior Tennis Championships). But I wholeheartedly agree with his decision to play the 16s at the Winters, even though he would be going for the 14s Grand Slam. As his loss of only 18 games in seven matches shows, he's more than ready for the next level.
In the section about Querrey, I have a couple comments. I don't understand how he is going to play both the Pilot Pen and U.S. Open men's qualifying. The two events run simultaneously. And as Rhiannon Potkey well knows, he won't be 18 until October.

Sam Querrey didn't play qualifying (or main draw) in New Haven.

Good point about JT. Also, how about Lin or Seal?
Question, who was on the US World team and qualifications?
For the qualifications part of this question, you'll have to ask the USTA High Performance group. The US team in the Czech Republic this year was Chase Buchanan, Devin Britton and Blake Davis.
Except for Chase not familiar with other two players. How did the US do?
The U.S. lost to Argentina in the semifinals 2-1.
4th place? What were they seeded? Curious how has US done in the past?
The US won in both 2002 & 2003. They were seeded number one this year, based on Buchanan winning Les Petits As and being runnerup at the Jr. Orange Bowl I presume. I really don't know how they seed these team events.
Interesting that the US came in 4th. Didn't the US take Lazare Kukhalashvili to Les Petit as well as Chase? Was surpised about that as he is always listed from Georgia, an Eastern European country in all other ETA tournamnets. Isn't the USTA suppose to take only US players?
Dont understand why choices for 14 Under World Team tennis were not based on wins except for Buchanan. Wonder if others declined? Also, interesting obversvation about Lazare K.... representing the US for Les Petits. Anyone know if he an american or from georgia,Eastern Europe? And, is it OK for the USTA to take a non american to represent the US?
