Signings, Transfers, Fifth Year Seniors, Coaching Moves in Division I Update

It's been more than a week since I last updated what was going in in Division I college tennis, and a lot has happened in that time. I keep up primarily by checking the websites of all the major programs, so if some announcements are only done via social media, I may have missed them. Of course if you follow @Parsabombs on twitter, you will get much of the major news. He recently reported that All-American Shiori Fukuda of Ohio State, a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining, will transfer to Pepperdine. Blue chip Gianna Pielet has verbally committed to Georgia for the fall of 2021 and blue chip Kylie Collins has verbally committed to Texas for 2021.

Starting with the men, here's what's been happening the past ten days.

Dave Schilling, who spent 21 years as Ty Tucker's assistant at Ohio State, with the past 18 years as a volunteer assistant, will take over as head coach at Division III Denison, his alma mater. Schilling takes over for Peter Burling, who retired after 30 years.

As I mentioned two days ago, Jonathan Stokke is leaving Duke's associate head coaching position after ten years.

Geronimo Espin Busleiman of Argentina, who spent one year at Oral Roberts, is transferring to Utah. Franco Bastias, also of Argentina, is transferring to Utah after two years at Miami.

Kentucky senior César Bourgois is returning for a fifth year in 2020-21.

Texas A&M senior All-American Valentin Vacherot is returning for a fifth year in 2020-21.

Christiaan Worst is going from Vanderbilt to Liberty as a graduate transfer.

Jan Galka is transferring to Auburn after two years at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Stefan Milicevic is going from Minnesota to Miami as a graduate transfer.

Dimitrios Azoidis is transferring to Texas Tech after two years at Abilene Christian.

Western Michigan will welcome back senior Jannik Opitz for a fifth year, and has signed Ferdinand Schluter of Germany. Fynn Lohse is transferring to the Broncos after two years at Idaho State.

Harvard has announced its 2020 class of Daniel Milavsky, David Lins and Denmark's Niels Korsgaard.

In women's Division I news:

Alabama has signed Anna Parkhomenko of Ukraine for 2020.

Emily Maxfield is going to Arizona as a graduate transfer after four years at University of San Francisco.

Olga Bienzobas Fernandez of Spain has signed with Missouri.

Hsuan Huang of Taiwan has signed with New Mexico.

Kaitlin Staines is transferring to Texas Tech after three years at Tennessee.

Vivian Wolff is transferring to UCLA after three years at Georgia.

Washington senior Natsuho Arakawa is returning for a second senior year.

Hunter Bleser is going from Virginia to West Virginia as a graduate transfer.

And two other bits of news: I asked Illinois men's head coach Brad Dancer if the 2022 NCAA tournament was still being held at Illinois, with Oklahoma State missing its opportunity to host this year due to the pandemic. He said at this time Illinois is still planning to host in 2022.  He also said the decision on the Champaign $25K, scheduled for July 27th, will be made on the 15th of this month, likely as part of a USTA decision on many events still on the schedule for this summer.
