Whittle Moves to No. 1 in ITA Division I Women's Rankings, Chrysochos and Wake Forest Remain Atop Latest Men's Rankings; Draws Revealed for Friday's Women's Team Indoor
Sophie Whittle of Gonzaga has been making history for her school for months now and can add another notable accomplishment, as she takes over the No. 1 position in the ITA Division I women's singles rankings released today. Whittle, who won the ITA/Riviera All-American title in October, takes over from Katarina Jokic of Georgia, who lost to Ana Roman of South Florida in the Bulldogs first match of the Kick-off Weekend. These are the first individual rankings since last November.
NCAA singles champion Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest stays at No. 1 on the men's side, while the NCAA champion Wake Forest men also remain at the top of the rankings. There are no women's team rankings this week, with the Women's National Team Indoor Championships beginning Friday in Seattle. The draws are out for the event, with Stanford, the NCAA champion, the top seed, followed by defending champion North Carolina, Duke and Vanderbilt. The ITA preview is here.
