Madden Signs with Michigan; Sweeting Signs with IMG

Tuesday was a big day for men's Big Ten NLI announcements. Michigan announced the signing of blue chip Chris Madden and five star recruit David Streeter. Purdue released an announcement that it had commitments from Californians DJ Johnson and Eric Ramos, and Northwestern announced that Peter Rispoli and Andrew McCarthy would be joining the Wildcats.

On the professional front, IMG has signed Ryan Sweeting to a representation contract, which would seem to indicate that he's more likely to be seen at training at Bollettieri's than Saddlebrook as previously reported by Charlie Bricker last week, but I'll check on that when I get to Bradenton.

It's great to see how many Americans the Big 10 are bringing in!

That is a very bold prediction. I'm not sure I agree with you on that one. He is a very stong player, but confrence champion is a stretch.

a stretch? I think the only incoming freshmen who might have a chance at an acomplishment like that in his first year is Jesse Levine.

to anonymous #1,
Ramos definitely gots potential for the Big ten title. He from the bay where we sick wit it, and thizz every weekend. Ramos is baller status and he gonna go ride the yellow bus at purdue all day and go completely stupid dumb and hyfe. Good luck at purdue and never for forget the hood where you from son. Madden aint got nothing on you. He aint from the bay, he from the mountains.

FYI - there isn't really a Big Ten individual title. There is a Big 10 Singles Tournament in November, but the top players that played in the National Indoors usually don't play in it. For example Moneke, Anderson and Rowe - the top 3 guys from this past fall all passed on it, which is usually the case. Pretty sure Ohio State and Illinois just had their lower guys in it ...

Are we forgetting who's in the Big Ten? Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan. He has no chance of winning the title. Kevin Anderson would beat him 0,0.

lol, First off I am pretty sure the Ramos comment was sarcastic, so everyone can calm down trying to disprove it. Secondly Ohio State's top players didn't play, and Illinois didn't send anyone at all. Most schools had the top players on their team play, but some don't send their top player like D.J. Geatz at Minnesota for example.

Maddens is choosing michigan over ohio state, thats not understandable, he must have had reasons other than tennis

your right... I have no idea why Madden would ever choose Michigan over Ohio State. I mean does that make sense to anyone? I mean why did Aarts, Mazlin, Sroczynski, or Navas choose Michigan over the past two years when they were all top fifteen in the country. I mean it simply makes no sense. Its not like Michgian is trying to build a program that can compete with the best in the country. God forbid such an attempt.

Michigan does have better facilities and a much better academic reputation than Ohio State. The rest is preference, maybe he liked Ann Arbor more than Columbus, or Berque more than Tucker. There are a bunch of perfectly understandable reasons why to chose Michigan over Ohio State.

michigan is one of the best colleges in the country. even if ohio state is better at tennis and most other sports, you cannot even compare columbus to ann arbor in location or academics

also, its not like Michigan is a bad tennis program, they are ranked around 30 and looking to go higher, who doesnt want to be a part of a good team getting better?? Maybe he felt he could play higher for Michigan, thats a big factor with a lot of recruits. And to the person who commented on the past top 15 players who went to Michigan, Top 15 in the Country in Juniors doesnt mean ANYTHING when you get into college.

the point of the past top fifteen players going to Michigan wasn't to say it meant anything in college... it was only to point out that Michigan has been getting pretty decent recruits the last two years so Maddens decision should not seem like it came out of nowhere.

is eric ramos the tiny little kid?

Anonymous said...

I mean just look at the rankings, Ohio State is top 5, Michigan is nowhere close to the Buckeyes. Maybe the problem was the money

Anonymous said...

he's only 5'8'', but he benches 225

Yes, Eric Ramos is the tiny little kid . Good hands,
but no big weapon ! He has no chance in the big 10
title .

Is Madden good enought to have an immediate impact at mighigan in the heart of the lineup or will he be a role player struggling for six? Had he gone to Ohio State would that have pushed them over the edge as far as national title hope are concerned or is he not a big difference maker?

Is Madden good enough to make a big difference at Michigan or will he be a role player low struggling low in the line up? And had he gone to ohio state would he have pushed them over the edge as far as national title hopes are concerned?
