US Open Men's Wild Cards Awarded To James Blake, Former Top 10 Player Mark Philippoussis, Jan-Michael Gambill and a Talented Group Of Young Americans

US Open Men's Wild Cards Awarded To James Blake, Former Top 10 Player Mark Philippoussis, Jan-Michael Gambill and a Talented Group Of Young Americans--
Except for Gambill, I can't really quibble with any of the wild card selections. I assume Philippoussis getting one for our Open means that Australia will reciprocate next January. But am I the only one shocked that the face of Open clothier Polo, Scott Oudsema, isn't getting a qualifying wild card and juniors Clayton, Levine, Smyczek and Querrey are?

Gambill's & Phillipoussis's wild cards are a waste (except for Flip's guaranteeing an American wild card to the Australian Open).

I'm also surprised about Oudsema being left out, but even more surprised about Philip Simmonds who recently qualified in Washington (& bageled Wayne Arthurs). His results have been just as good if not better than some of those who did receive qualifying wild cards.

Collette,

Seems to be one or two disappointing choices. As much as we'd like Mark to do well I don't think anyone would suggest that his form (for quite some time now) warrants his inclusion. I would have thought, if a foreign player was to be granted a wild card, it would be given to Andy Murray, a player who has both youth, form and recent successes in America on his side.
