UNC's Women's Team Indoor Winning Streak Continues, Virginia and Ohio State Oust Seeds Pepperdine and Georgia; Joint Reaches W75 Final in Burnie; Giron Defeats Top Seed Tiafoe at ATP Dallas Open, Joins Shelton and Paul in Semifinals

The University of North Carolina's winning streak at the ITA Women's Team Indoor Championships now stands at 17, with the four-time defending champions defeating the University of Southern California 4-1 on opening day of the event in Seattle Washington.

The Tar Heels had an unexpected singles lineup, when Reese Brantmeier tweaked her knee in doubles play, and although she finished that match, the sophomore All-American was pulled from the singles lineup, at No. 2, while Elizabeth Scotty, usually at No. 4, was also given the evening off in singles. The Trojans did get a point, but even without two of their top four singles players, UNC managed a straightforward victory.

Two seeded teams were ousted, with No. 5 seed Pepperdine falling to Virginia 5-2 and No. 7 seed Georgia, a finalist last year at the event, losing to Ohio State 4-3.  No. 4 Michigan escaped a tough test from Cal to open the day, earning a 4-2 victory.

Below are the scores from the first six matches; the last two are unlikely to finish before midnight on the east coast, so I will update those results Saturday morning. Click on the score to go to a recap of the match from the school's website, if available. Links to live streaming, Cracked Racquets' CrossCourt Cast and live scoring are available here.
