Australian Open Champions Tien and Williams Top Seeds in Kalamazoo 18s Doubles; Lists of 12s and 14s Seeds; Wild Cards Kessler and Kingsley Advance to Quarterfinals in Lexington

Nikita Filin and Darwin Blanch check in at the Kalamazoo 18s registration desk

The 80th edition of the USTA 18s and 16s National Championships in Kalamazoo begins Friday, with the first round of 18s singles and the first and second round of 18s doubles. The tournament's draw size is back to 192 players after expanding to 224 in 2017, but the 64 seeds have been retained in singles, with none of those players in action until Saturday, when the 16s first round and 18s second round singles matches will be played.

The doubles draw size was also reduced, from 128 to 96, and only 16 teams are seeded. Below are the seeds for both the 18s and 16s doubles. The 18s doubles draw is out now; the 16s should go up later tonight.

The G16s draws were posted last night and the G18s draws were published tonight. Defending champions Clervie Ngounoue and Reese Brantmeier(UNC) are the top seeds in the G18s doubles.

The list of the Top 32 seeds for the singles in San Diego and Kalamazoo can be found here.

With everything's that going on with the USTA National Championships, I haven't had much time to follow the USTA Pro Circuit events this week, but wanted to note the results from today at the women's $60,000 tournament and the men's ATP Challenger 75 in Lexington Kentucky.  Wild card Mccartney Kessler(Florida) defeated No. 4 seed Katie Volynets 6-0, 6-3 to reach her third quarterfinal at a $60K this year. The other Americans advancing to the quarterfinals are Makenna Jones(UNC), who beat No. 6 seed Katie Swan of Great Britain 6-2, 6-3 and top seed Caroline Dolehide, who defeated qualifier Victoria Hu(Princeton) 6-4, 6-1.

Ohio State's Cannon Kingsley, who has one more year of eligibility remaining, reached the Challenger quarterfinal with a 6-4, 7-5 win over No. 6 seed Dane Sweeney of Australia. Kingsley will play No. 3 seed Tung-Lin Wu of China. Other Americans advancing to the quarterfinals are Aidan Mayo, Tennys Sandgren(Tennessee), Ulises Blanch and No. 2 seed Steve Johnson(USC).
