My Interview with Jamie Loeb; All Eight Seeds Advance to Quarterfinals at ITA Women's D-I Team Indoor Championships; Ohio State Men Post 4-3 Win Over Texas A&M

Last week at the Dow Tennis Classic in Midland, Michigan, I had an opportunity to speak with former North Carolina star Jamie Loeb for this Tennis Recruiting Network article. The 2015 NCAA champion, who is now beginning her third full year on the WTA Tour, reached the final of that $100,000 tournament and moved her WTA ranking to a career-high of 132. She spoke candidly about her results in 2017, the financial challenges of toiling outside the Top 100, her continued connection to UNC, and what she hopes to accomplish in 2018.

The ITA Women's Division I Team Indoor round one is complete, with all eight seeds advancing to the quarterfinals.  Although most of the matches were tight, with five of them ending at 4-2, none came down to the last match on.

Below are the box scores from all eight matches.  Bobby Knight has a link to all the lineups and the UTR numbers for all those competing at College Tennis Today.

Saturday's quarterfinals:

Noon (Central time):
Georgia[2] v Duke[7]
North Carolina[3] v Texas Tech[6]

3:30 p.m.:

Pepperdine[4] v Georgia Tech[5]
Vanderbilt[1] v Florida[3]

There was a Top 10 men's match this evening, with No. 2 Ohio State hosting No. 6 Texas A&M in Columbus.  The match came down to No. 2 singles, with Ohio State's Mikhael Torpegaard defeating Arthur Rinderknech 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-2 in front of a very loud Buckeye crowd.  No. 1 singles was a rematch of last year's Kalamazoo 18s final, but this time JJ Wolf got the victory over Patrick Kypson 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.  The complete recap is at the Ohio State website.
