Duval Reaches Final at Toronto Challenger; Michigan's Bektas and Bolender Take Doubles Title at Collegiate Invitational, Where Five Juniors are Undefeated
Seventeen-year-old Vicky Duval reached just her second ITF Women's Circuit final by defeating No. 4 seed Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic 7-6(5), 6-1 today at the $50,000 Challenger in Toronto. Duval, the No. 7 seed, will face top seed Timea Babos of Hungary, who topped No. 3 seed Melanie Oudin 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the other semifinal.
Duval's only other ITF Women's Circuit final was last year, and at a much lower level. She reached the final at the $10,000 tournament in Sumter, SC back in May, losing to Louisa Chirico 6-4, 6-3. Duval has already collected
At the $50,000 Challenger in New Braunfels, Texas, both American semifinalists lost. Nicole Gibbs was beaten by Elitsa Kostova of Bulgaria 7-6(1), 6-4 and qualifier Danielle Lao fell to No. 6 seed Anna Tatishvili of Georgia 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3, ending her impressive week in Texas. Taylor Townsend and Asia Muhammad, seeded second, are in Sunday's doubles final against top seeds Tatishvili and CoCo Vandeweghe.
At the Charlottesville Challenger, unseeded Peter Polansky beat No. 7 seed Rhyne Williams 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 and will square off against No. 3 seed Michael Russell, who advanced to the final when Jesse Levine retired down 6-0 3-1. The doubles final will be an all-American affair, with Steve Johnson and Tim Smyczek facing Donald Young and Jarmere Jenkins.
In Australia, top seed Bradley Klahn has reached the final of the $50,000 Traralgon Challenger, where he'll face No. 8 seed Yuki Bhambri of India.

Five USTA juniors have won their first two matches, with Ena Shibahara, Peggy Porter, Jada Hart, Samantha Hampton and Bess Waldram all having a chance to win their round robin group Sunday morning and advance to the Wild Card Shootout in the afternoon.
