Transcript of Patrick McEnroe and Jose Higueras Player Development Conference

Here is a link to Monday's Player Development news conference. I obviously would like to do more with this, but it might be a few weeks before I'll have a chance. Comments, with a name provided of course, are welcome.usopen.org.

For those who would rather read the transcript, it can be found here.

Interesting player development factoid - there are 6 Spanish players in the last 16 of the men's draw but only one Spanish junior in the boys main draw and none in the qualifying draw. Back's up the assertion that Spain just doesn't focus on junior tennis at all.

The reason Spain only has one junior in the main draw of the junior tournament is not the lack of focus on junior development. It is because all the top players are playing futures and challengers. They are trying to follow the Nadal path.

Spain, Couldn't agree more. Rather interesting that the top American coming up followed the same path and quit playing juniors long ago. Someone gave him the right advice.
